In support of Mobile CDL, a new library outreach vehicle, Chelsea District Library has received two large grants: a $47,400 T-Mobile Hometown Grant and $25,000 from the Chelsea Community Foundation.
Through a number of studies of library usage, we see that library card holders and usage rates decline with distance from a physical branch. With a 110 square mile service district, Mobile CDL will help boost literacy rates in underserved areas and address lack of access due to circumstance, disability, or lack of transportation. Additionally, many areas of the library’s service district lack reliable internet service. The mobile outreach vehicle will be able to provide scheduled visits to these areas to address the needs of students and professionals working from home with high speed internet access as well as mobile office solutions like copying, scanning, printing, and tech training. We are grateful to T-Mobile and the Chelsea Community Foundation for their generous support of this initiative.
