Diversity is Not a Webinar: Navigating the Library Industry in the Age of DEI
""Recently, diversity, equity, and inclusion activities have grown exponentially across the library industry. Librarians attend inclusivity training in higher numbers. Academic leaders define new indicators to better evaluate DEI policies. Collection
development specialists promote the cultural diversity of authors. Faculty ask librarians to augment teaching materials with authors from diverse backgrounds. And universities ask publishers for features and services that better support patrons from
diverse backgrounds.
Although the above activities are well-intentioned, the impact of efforts remains to be seen and many in a position in power neglect to create a space to hear from those they are most intended to benefit. How
are professionals from diverse backgrounds working at libraries, publishing houses, and vendors experiencing this shift? Specifically, how are Persons of Color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and people with disabilities navigating this new professional
landscape?"
