Survey Says: Michiganders Value Libraries and the Freedom to Read!

In March 2023, the Michigan Library Association contracted with EPIC-MRA, a full-service survey research firm with expertise in Public Opinion Surveys and Market
Research Studies, to conduct a statewide survey about current politics and libraries.
The survey of 800 voters in Michigan measured the awareness of, and attitudes toward, the growing efforts to limit the freedom to read and to ban books in public libraries.
Survey Says:
71% give local public libraries in Michigan a positive rating.
83% support legislation guaranteeing the right to read and to not ban books.
70% say
that librarians are capable and trustworthy to decide which books to have in local library collections.
80% agree that parents have the right to decide what their own child can read or not read.
77% agree that local public libraries
should have diverse collections of books representing the community and the world around us.
