I am happy to announce, with immense joy and gratitude, that the Ecorse Public Library will reopen to the public on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024 at 12pm.

This has been a long labor of love and illustrates the deep commitment that communities and librarians feel for their local libraries. I have been the director here at Ecorse for a little over a year, and I have seen such resilience and dedication from so many who were willing to share their time, energy, talent, and wisdom in order to see this library revitalized. We started with very little and encountered many setbacks, but in the end this project will be completed and we will be able to offer a clean, modern neighborhood library to our citizens. Libraries remain the soul of many communities, and we are ecstatic to once again be an integral part of the heartbeat of Ecorse.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to the colleagues who supported EPL and Ecorse patrons during this time, including the River Rouge, Wyandotte, Melvindale, Lincoln Park, and Allen Park libraries. Thank you to Steve Bowers and everyone at TLN (special shout out to our delivery driver Mike, who is always such a ray of sunshine!) for giving us any help and advice that they could. Personal thanks to the other directors who answered my questions, especially to Don Priest, Patty Braden, and Nicole Kessler, who all made themselves available to me at various times. Thank you to Matt de Bear and the team at Library Design, who made a difficult project seem like nothing more than a great opportunity; they are professional and enthusiastic, and I recommend their firm without reserve.

We are thankful for the support of the city of Ecorse, the patience of our community leaders, the perseverance of the Ecorse Public Library Board, and the hard work of the staff of the Ecorse Public Library, including William Perkins and Oliver Wyrick. Special thanks to Assistant Director Alice Howard, whose dedication to this community is unmatched; she is the epitome of a devoted public librarian, and this would not have been possible without her. Thank you to anyone I may have missed in my excitement; I am humbled and delighted to have been part of this team.

Attached you will find the schedule of our open hours and our mission and values statement.

With sincere gratitude,

Melissa Adkins (she/her)
